Fire Defense sells and services a variety of portable and wheeled fire extinguishers manufactured by the best companies in the business. Based on your unique fire hazard potential, our trained personnel can help you select the right types of extinguishers and provide full installation and servicing to keep your facility safe. Fire Defense complies with all NFPA 10 Standards which dictate requirements for extinguisher installation, maintenance, and service.
When an extinguisher is intentionally used or even accidentally discharged (including partial discharges), it should be serviced immediately. Generally, this simply involves replacing the extinguishing agent and the expellent gas (normally nitrogen). If this service is not done, the extinguisher may not operate properly if needed at a future date.
Fire extinguishers should be inspected on a monthly basis. The owner can do this or we can provide this service at a reasonable price. The inspection is a quick check to assure that the extinguisher is easily available and will operate.
The NFPA Standard and local fire codes require extinguishers to undergo annual maintenance. This includes changing the seal, weighing the extinguisher, and checking all parts for damage, corrosion, or blockage. Some types of extinguishers, such as antifreeze-loaded stream types, require complete activation, disassembly, reassembly, and recharge. Carbon dioxide extinguishers must also undergo a conductivity test as part of maintenance or recharge.

When a fire extinguisher is discharged (even if partially and/or by accident), it should immediately be serviced. Usually, this is a simple process of replacing the extinguishing agent and its corresponding expellant gas (generally, nitrogen is used); however, if this service is not performed, the extinguisher may not operate properly when needed.
Fire extinguishers are to be inspected on a monthly basis. We can train owners of businesses to do this, or we can provide the inspections for you at a very reasonable price. Monthly inspections serve to ensure that each extinguisher is fully operational and readily available.

This includes changing seals, weighing the extinguisher, and checking all parts for damage, corrosion, or blockage. Some types of extinguishers, such as antifreeze-loaded stream types, require a completely new activation, in addition to regular disassembly, reassembly, and recharging. Carbon dioxide extinguishers must also undergo a conductivity test as part of a standard maintenance or recharge.
PROPANE
In the 1980’s, we investigated the possibility of up and coming service vehicles that would run on multiple fuel types. The hope was to eventually cut down our costs and our customers' prices. Unfortunately, the propane-powered vehicles never really panned out, but before we knew it, the 1,000 gallon propane tank we purchased had found a different purpose: filling up our customers' tanks. Thus to this day, propane remains on our list of walk-in services for both commercial and residential customers alike.
Of course, in addition to walk-in's during business hours, Fire Defense also offers 24 hour emergency refills for an additional charge. For more information, please call us at (248) 549-8113.
